Chinese premier exchanges views with U.S. entrepreneurs on trade

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday met with American delegation visiting China for a dialogue with Chinese entrepreneurs and exchanged views with them on China-U.S. trade relations.

The delegation consists of U.S. business entrepreneurs and some former high-level officials.

This year marks 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the United States. Over the past 40 years, the two countries have witnessed forward-moving economic and trade ties with win-win results, Li said.

While stressing the importance of extensive common interests between China and the U.S., Premier Li suggested that both sides, in accordance with the consensus reached by the two heads of state, should follow principles of equality and mutual respect, seek common ground and continue to explore approaches accepted by both sides to resolve differences.

China will open only wider to the outside world, and is committed to creating a market-oriented, law-based international business environment where domestic and foreign enterprises are treated equally and protection of intellectual property is given priority to.

China has fully liberalized its manufacturing sector and accelerated the opening up of its service sector, the premier said.

“China has a vast market. We welcome enterprises from all countries, including those from the United States, to expand economic, trade and investment cooperation with China and achieve mutually beneficial results,” Li added.

The American entrepreneurs said that U.S. companies, which were inspired by China’s new measures to open up, are looking at the current U.S.-China trade frictions from a long-term perspective, opposing actions to weaken economic relations with China and economic decoupling between the two countries.

They also voiced their hope that bilateral economic and trade consultations will gain ground with an agreement being reached at an early date.

Overseas Chinese celebrate 40th anniversary of China-U.S. relations with concert in Lincoln Center

NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Overseas Chinese in New York City presented a brilliant concert late Friday night in Lincoln Center to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and the United States and to celebrate the forthcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

The 2019 Golden Night Concert, staged by The Asian Cultural Symphony of the USA, featured a mix of well-known classical western and Chinese symphonies, operas and songs, attracting hundreds of overseas Chinese and American audience.

Young Chinese songwriter and singer Huo Zun performed three songs at the concert, including his signature song Rolled-Up Pearl Curtain, the unique pop-song One Night in Beijing, and a Peking opera excerpt Butterfly Love from The Great Concubine of Tang in cooperation with renowned Peking opera singer Li Jun, winning prolonged warm applause.

Li Jun’s Peking opera excerpt Morning Sun in Heart from Climbing Tiger Mountain and Wang Hongli’s Henan opera excerpt from Mulan enchanted the audience with the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture.

Famed female vocalist Zheng Xulan staged her classic pieces Shepherdess Song and The Sea, The Homeland, renewing old memories of overseas Chinese.

Also presented included The Toreador Song from Carmen by baritone Nigel Smith, Tambourin Chinois and Zigeunerweisen by violinist Lin Zhaoliang, and Hulunbuir Grassland by the Krliu family singers.

The concert served as a platform for overseas Chinese to convey their goodwill. Over the past 40 years, Chinese American made significant contribution in bridging China-U.S. exchange in a variety of aspects. As the center of classical music in New York City and a coveted platform by artists, Lincoln Center witnessed another wonderful cultural exchange between the East and the West.

China’s top legislator meets U.S. senators

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Top legislator Li Zhanshu met with a delegation led by U.S. Senator Steve Daines and Senator David Perdue here on Monday.

Commending their long-term efforts to promote the development of bilateral relations and exchanges between the legislative bodies, Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), said this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.

He said history has proven that China and the United States stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation and a healthy China-U.S. relationship meets the common interests of both countries and the world.

China is committed to the road of peaceful development and upholds an opening strategy featuring mutual benefit and win-win results, said Li, adding that the NPC is ready to work with the U.S. Congress to enhance cooperation and to properly handle differences and sensitive issues through dialogue and constructive means.

Daines, also co-chair of the U.S. House of Senate U.S.-China Working Group, and Perdue said U.S.-China relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world and members from the working group are ready to make efforts to promote mutual understanding between the two governments and the two peoples.

Wang Chen, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, met with Daines and Perdue earlier in the day.

Chinese, Irish leaders exchange congratulations on 40th anniversary of ties

BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday exchanged greetings with his Irish counterpart Michael D. Higgins on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations.

Since the forging of the diplomatic ties 40 years ago, the two countries have been adhering to the spirit of mutual respect, treating each other on an equal footing, mutual benefit and win-win to push forward healthy and stable development of the bilateral relations and scored fruitful achievements in exchanges and cooperation in various fields, Xi said in a congratulatory message.

President Higgins paid a state visit to China in 2014 and the two heads of state conducted in-depth and friendly exchanges and mapped out a blueprint of China-Ireland relations, Xi recalled.

The Chinese president said he attaches high attention to advancing the ties between China and Ireland and stands ready to make joint efforts with President Higgins to lift the mutually beneficial strategic partnership to a new stage to benefit the two countries and peoples while taking the 40th anniversary as a new starting point.

For his part, Higgins said in a message that, over the last four decades, the bilateral ties have become even stronger as time goes by and pragmatic cooperation in various fields have been increasingly deepening.

The Irish side highly values developing ties with China and is willing to further explore potentials for pragmatic cooperation, boost coordination on safeguarding multilateralism and other global affairs and promote the Ireland-China ties toward further development, he added.

Also on Saturday, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar exchanged congratulatory messages.

Li said China, with the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, is ready to work with Ireland to push the two countries’ mutually beneficial strategic partnership and friendly cooperation to continuously move forward.

Varadkar said that China’s reform and opening up and achievements in development carry global significance, noting that the Irish side will continue to fully develop Ireland-China partnership based on the spirit of mutual respect.
