Tajik president meets with senior Chinese official on bilateral ties

DUSHANBE, March 1 (Xinhua) — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Sunday met here with Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, with both sides reaffirming commitments to strengthening ties.

During the meeting, Yang recalled that last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Rahmon agreed to jointly build the China-Tajikistan development community and security community, outlining a new blueprint for developing relations between the two countries, which he noted are good neighbors, friends, partners and brothers.

China is willing to work with Tajikistan to implement the consensus reached between the two heads of state, unswervingly support each other, deepen practical cooperation, safeguard common security and strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, Yang said.

Over the past years, the two sides have seen fruits yielded in their jointly building the Belt and Road, and they should further synergize development strategies, elevate cooperation, and enhance people-to-people exchanges to further benefit the two countries and peoples, Yang said.

Yang briefed the Tajik president on the progress China has made in its all-out fight against the novel coronavirus under Xi’s leadership, as well as on the anti-virus measures adopted in tandem with those aimed at promoting economic and social development.

China thanks Tajikistan for sending medical equipment to assist its anti-virus efforts, Yang said, adding that China will continue working with countries including Tajikistan in fighting the coronavirus and safeguarding regional and global public health security.

For his part, Rahmon spoke highly of China’s anti-virus fight. The Chinese people will definitely defeat the virus under President Xi’s leadership, he said.

Rahmon said Tajikistan considers it as a foreign policy priority to develop relations with China, which is a close neighbour and reliable strategic partner of Tajikistan.

Tajikistan is willing to well implement the key Belt and Road cooperation projects, deepen security cooperation between the two countries and people-to-people exchanges, so as to inject new impetus into the development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

Also on Sunday, Yang met with Tajik Deputy Prime Minister Azim Ibrohim.

China, Japan pledge cooperation in fighting COVID-19 epidemic

TOKYO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) — China and Japan agreed on Friday to step up public health cooperation to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.

During the meeting, Yang said China and Japan assisted each other in the fight against COVID-19 and worked together to overcome the difficulties, thus deepening the friendship between the two countries.

China sincerely thanks Japan for its precious support, and is willing to continue providing support and help for Japan’s fight against the epidemic, strengthen bilateral and multilateral medical and health cooperation, so as to jointly safeguard the health and wellbeing of the peoples of the two countries and the world, he said.

Yang said the China-Japan relations have maintained a sound momentum of development. He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Abe held two successful meetings last year, leading efforts in building China-Japan relations in line with the requirements of the new era.

China is ready to work with Japan to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, respect each other, seek common ground while reserving differences, and work together to build a new pattern of bilateral relations featuring joint cooperation, win-win and mutual benefit, said Yang.

Xi’s upcoming state visit to Japan is of great significance and China is ready to maintain close communication with Japan and make preparations for the visit, he said.

China firmly supports Japan in successfully hosting the Tokyo Olympic Games, he added.

For his part, Abe said Xi’s upcoming state visit to Japan this year is of great importance and Japan will make careful preparations to ensure the success and fruitful results of the visit.

The peoples of Japan and China have shown friendly feelings in their joint fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, Abe said.

He said Japan speaks highly of China’s positive achievements in the fight against the virus and is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in information sharing and epidemic prevention and control, and send a positive signal to the international community of jointly tackling the challenges to global public health security.

Also on Friday Yang attended the eighth China-Japan high-level political dialogue with head of Japan’s national security council Shigeru Kitamura and met with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

Senior Chinese official meets Republic of Congo president

BRAZZAVILLE, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) — Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso here on Thursday.

Yang, also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, said the two countries are good friends, good partners and good brothers.

In recent years, the two countries’ heads of state have met many times to steer the development of bilateral ties, he said.

Political mutual trust between the two countries continues to deepen, and their practical cooperation has yielded remarkable results, said the Chinese official, adding that financial and aviation cooperation has become a new growth point, and progress has been made in key projects such as the construction of the Pointe Noire special economic zone.

China has always supported the Republic of the Congo in developing its economy, improving people’s livelihood, and adhering to a development path that suits its national realities, Yang said.

He urged the two sides to keep the momentum of high-level exchanges, and to continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests and concerns.

Under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the two sides should expand their cooperation in various fields, strengthen communication and coordination, safeguard the common interests of the two countries and those of developing countries as a whole, so as to demonstrate the high level of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

For his part, Sassou said the Congolese side treasures its friendship with China. The Congolese side highly appreciated that Chinese President Xi Jinping chose the country as one of the destinations of his first foreign trip in 2013 after taking office, Sassou said.

The Congolese people appreciate valuable long-term support from China, particularly recent flood relief assistance and supplies, he said.

Sassou added that the Congolese side will continue its active participation in the BRI, and is looking forward to further strengthening mutual cooperation in key areas, including agriculture, infrastructure and industrial facilities.

Yang also met with Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Congo Jean-Claude Gakosso on the same day.

Xi returns to Beijing after informal meeting with Indian PM, visit to Nepal

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping returned to Beijing Sunday evening after his second informal meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India and a state visit to Nepal.

Xi’s entourage, including Ding Xuexiang, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee; State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi; and He Lifeng, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and head of the National Development and Reform Commission, also returned to Beijing on the same plane.

As Xi and his entourage were leaving Kathmandu on Sunday noon local time, people of Nepal flocked to both sides of a road leading to the airport, waving flags and playing music to see the Chinese guests off.

Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari hosted a grand farewell ceremony for Xi at the airport. Nepali Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, cabinet members and senior army generals also attended the ceremony, which featured a 21-gun salute and the playing of national anthems of China and Nepal.

Calling his visit to Nepal a “very successful” one, Xi told Bhandari that upon his arrival, he had been warmly welcomed by the Nepali government and people.

Xi said he was convinced that the China-Nepal friendship enjoyed lasting popularity among the two peoples and will be unbreakable.

Expressing his appreciation for the arrangements made by the Nepali president, government and people, Xi said he was very satisfied with the visit that had resulted in the upgrading of bilateral relations.

He called for joint efforts to further develop the friendly relations between the two countries.

Bhandari said Xi’s successful and fruitful visit has become a milestone in the history of bilateral ties.

The Nepal-China relationship has entered a new era and stepped on a new height, Bhandari said, adding that Nepal will resolutely work with China to promote friendly and good neighborly relations and strategic cooperative partnership.

BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan met here Thursday with visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

Noting that China and Malaysia have enjoyed friendly exchanges for around a thousand years, Wang said the in-depth development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership in recent years has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Wang said that for any nation to achieve prosperity, it must go through a long and arduous process. He called for vision and thoughts to understand uncertainties in today’s world, make wise choices, seize opportunities and overcome challenges.

CHANGCHUN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — The 12th China-Northeast Asia Expo and the 10th High-level Forum on Northeast Asia Cooperation opened Friday in Changchun, capital city of northeast China’s Jilin Province.

Vice Premier Hu Chunhua attended the opening ceremony and read the congratulatory letter of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Hu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said that the letter highly affirmed the development vitality of Northeast Asia, and pointed out major Belt and Road opportunities for expanding and deepening regional cooperation.

Northeast Asia is one of the most dynamic and potential regions in Asia and even in the world, which brings favorable conditions and rare opportunities for strengthening regional cooperation, Hu said.

China is ready to work with other Northeast Asian countries to further expand trade and investment, deepen industrial chain cooperation, and raise the level of infrastructural connectivity, he said.

“A more open and prosperous China will surely create more business opportunities for enterprises in northeast Asia and the world at large. We expect more cooperation to be achieved at the expo, which is a platform for in-depth communication and exchanges,” he said.

BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) — Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with a delegation of the French Communist Party (PCF) on Sunday.

Huang, also head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the CPC cherishes its traditional friendship with the PCF. He called on the two parties to enhance dialogues and exchanges and forge closer relations.

The Chinese side will make joint efforts with the French side to safeguard multilateralism, cope with global challenges and build a community with a shared future for mankind, Huang added.

PCF’s National Secretary Fabien Roussel, also head of the PCF delegation, said the PCF will beef up cooperation with the CPC for better development of the two countries’ relations and benefits for the two peoples.

Senior Chinese official stresses importance of security cooperation with Portugal

LISBON, June 21 (Xinhua) — Senior Chinese official Guo Shengkun on Friday stressed the importance of raising the level of cooperation on law enforcement and security with Portugal.

Guo is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee.

In meeting with acting Portuguese Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Augusto Santos Silva, Guo said that the exchange of visits by leaders of the two countries within half a year reflects the high level of China-Portugal relations and injects new impetus into the development of bilateral ties.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. China is willing to take the opportunity to work together with Portugal to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, Guo said.

China, Guo said, is also ready to deepen cooperation in economy and trade, education, science and technology as well as the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Guo said the two sides should strengthen communication and coordination under the framework of China-European Union (EU) cooperation and multilateral institutions to promote the long-term healthy and stable development of China-EU relations, and jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade.

Guo also said that the cooperation on law enforcement and security is an important part of the relationship between the two countries, stressing the need to establish a normalized cooperation mechanism to continuously promote the level of cooperation on the law enforcement, security and anti-terrorism to meet the demand of increasing trade and personnel exchanges, so as to make contributions to the development of China-Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership.

As acting prime minister, Silva welcomed Guo’s visit and highly praised the fruitful results of the exchanges and cooperation between Portugal and China in various fields.

Silva said Portugal is willing to work together with China to continue to tap the potential for pragmatic cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, law enforcement and security, strengthen coordination in international affairs, and promote the continuous development of Europe-China and Portugal-China relations

Silva also said that his country supports and is willing to actively participate in the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative.

During the visit, Guo also held talks with head of the Portuguese law enforcement and security departments.

Chinese president leaves for Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing on Wednesday afternoon for Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

At the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Xi will pay a state visit to Kyrgyzstan and attend the 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan.

At the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Xi will attend the fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, and pay a state visit to the country.

China, Japan express willingness to enhance communication, cooperation

TOKYO, June 9 (Xinhua) — Cai Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee wrapped up a visit to Japan on Sunday, with both sides expressing willingness to maintain the good momentum of bilateral relations and further enhance cooperation and communication.

At the invitation of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito Party, Cai led a delegation of the CPC to Japan from Thursday to Sunday. During the visit, he met with Secretary-General of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party Toshihiro Nikai and other party leaders and government officials.

Cai said that currently Sino-Japanese relations are returning to the right track and showing positive development momentum. The Chinese side is ready to work with Japan to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders of the states, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, tighten public opinion ties, increase inter-party, local and Olympic exchanges and cooperation, and jointly open up new prospects for bilateral relations.

He also stated China’s stance on the trade frictions between China and the United States, saying that China and Japan should strengthen communication and coordination, jointly address the challenges of protectionism and unilateralism, promote the construction of an open world economy, and make important contributions to promoting the development and prosperity of Asia and the world.

The Japanese side said that Japan attaches great importance to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming attendance at the G20 Summit in Osaka and hopes to take this opportunity to achieve positive results in promoting free trade and raise bilateral relations to a new level.

Japan is willing to continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in political parties, localities, the Olympics, youth and other fields, and inject new impetus into the improvement and development of bilateral relations, the Japanese side added.
