Top political advisor stresses religious work, poverty alleviation in Tibetan-inhabited regions

CHENGDU, May 27 (Xinhua) — Wang Yang, China’s top political advisor, underlined efforts to curb separatists, maintain normal religious practices and alleviate poverty during a visit to the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze in Sichuan Province from Saturday to Monday.

Efforts should be made to guide religious people to willingly uphold the Party’s leadership, promote patriotism and correctly understand the relations between the law and religious doctrines, said Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee.

He instructed local authorities to improve the management of temples and counteract infiltration by hostile foreign forces.

Wang also urged them to improve the quality of poverty relief projects, upgrade local infrastructure and public services and allocate more resources to the areas suffering absolute poverty.

China’s top political advisor meets Azerbaijani president

BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) — China’s top political advisor Wang Yang on Wednesday met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev ahead of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to be held from April 25 to 27 in Beijing.

Hailing the long-term friendship between China and Azerbaijan, Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, said that the two countries have continued to strengthen their mutual political trust and promoted cooperation in various fields in recent years.

“Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to respond to the Belt and Road Initiative, and cooperation between the two countries in various fields has seen a series of early harvest,” said Wang, adding that China is willing to work with Azerbaijan to seize the great opportunity of jointly building the Belt and Road and deepen bilateral ties and cooperation in various areas to benefit the two countries and the peoples.

Aliyev also expressed the willingness of the Azerbaijani side to contribute to the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and promote the continuous development of bilateral relations.

Chinese companies in Africa create great development opportunities

BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) — Chinese companies operating in Africa have created huge opportunities for the continent’s development, a senior political advisor said Wednesday at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual sessions of the top legislative and political advisory bodies.

There are more than 10,000 Chinese companies in Africa and over 90 percent of them are private businesses, said Nan Cunhui, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, citing a recent survey.

These companies have built roads, railways, airports, ports and other infrastructure projects in Africa, addressing the bottleneck in development, said Nan, also a vice chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. They have also invested in green energy development, including photovoltaic power stations, to boost local power supply.

The Chinese companies have also brought advanced technologies, development concepts and management to the continent, Nan said.

Citing the operation of an industrial park in Egypt as an example, Nan said over 95 percent of the employees are locals who develop professional skills and gain managerial know-how through their work.

“Chinese companies in Africa have contributed a lot to the local economic development through infrastructure construction, job creation and tax payment,” Nan said. “I believe China-Africa cooperation will go from strength to strength.”
