Premier Li urges more efforts to advance medical reforms

BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has urged intensified efforts and more effective measures to advance the country’s medical reforms.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks in a written instruction to a video and telephone conference on medical reforms held in Beijing Friday.

Hailing the achievements made in major tasks of medical reforms last year, including centralized medicine procurement and lower prices of anticancer drugs, Li extended sincere greetings to participants in medical reforms and medical workers.

Li called for the in-depth implementation of the Healthy China initiative, and more health promotion activities with extensive coverage.

Li urged strengthened screening tests of major diseases and improved prevention of commonly-seen chronic diseases.

He also stressed the role of basic medical insurance and called for increased reimbursement rate of serious disease insurance.

BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) — Top political advisor Wang Yang Friday met with representatives of media outlets from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The trend of the times that the cross-Strait relations move forward in the new era cannot be obstructed by anyone or any forces, said Wang, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, while meeting with the representatives who attended a media summit in Beijing.

Media outlets across the Strait shoulder the social responsibility of maintaining and promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, said Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

He called on the media on both sides to continue giving voice to pushing forward the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advancing the process toward the peaceful reunification of the motherland and to make their contributions to realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Chinese top legislator meets Lao president

BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhua) — Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), on Friday met with Lao President Bounnhang Vorachit, who is attending the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.

Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China is willing to strengthen high-level contacts between the two countries and push forward the bilateral relations.

Li said that the NPC is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the Lao National Assembly.

Bounnhang, also general secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, said Laos is ready to work closely with China to make new progress in building a community with a shared future for the two countries.

China’s top political advisor meets Azerbaijani president

BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) — China’s top political advisor Wang Yang on Wednesday met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev ahead of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to be held from April 25 to 27 in Beijing.

Hailing the long-term friendship between China and Azerbaijan, Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, said that the two countries have continued to strengthen their mutual political trust and promoted cooperation in various fields in recent years.

“Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to respond to the Belt and Road Initiative, and cooperation between the two countries in various fields has seen a series of early harvest,” said Wang, adding that China is willing to work with Azerbaijan to seize the great opportunity of jointly building the Belt and Road and deepen bilateral ties and cooperation in various areas to benefit the two countries and the peoples.

Aliyev also expressed the willingness of the Azerbaijani side to contribute to the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and promote the continuous development of bilateral relations.

Chinese leaders stress high-quality development

BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) — Senior Chinese leaders on Wednesday urged for more efforts to advance high-quality development.

Li Keqiang, Wang Yang and Han Zheng — members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee — made the remarks at the annual “two sessions” of the country’s top legislative and political advisory bodies.

Joining panel discussions by deputies to the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) from southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Premier Li Keqiang stressed following the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as China’s development faces more and graver risks and challenges in 2019.

He called for efforts to keep the economic growth within an appropriate range and promote high-quality development, and urged solid implementation of the planned tax and fee cuts to reduce burden on the real economy.

At the joint panel discussions of political advisors from economy and agriculture sectors, Wang Yang, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, told them to focus on major and difficult tasks, such as high-quality development and supply-side structural reform, and to deepen their investigations and researches. Wang also urged the advisors to guide the people in correctly interpreting the changes in economy and boost their confidence in development.

Vice Premier Han Zheng joined the panel discussions by lawmakers from Hong Kong. He expressed the support to Hong Kong’s bid to build itself into an international innovation and technology hub, and encouraged the people of Hong Kong, especially the youth, to start up businesses and work in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Han also joined panel discussions by lawmakers from Macao. He said that Macao will be supported in its efforts to expand new development space, and to develop its tourism and exhibition industries.
