Top political advisor calls for efforts to promote China-Africa cooperation

BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhua) — China’s top political advisor Wang Yang on Wednesday called on the newly established China-Africa Friendship Group of the national political advisory body to contribute to building a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks while meeting here with members of the friendship group.

The members are in Beijing to attend the inauguration ceremony of the group and its first plenary session.

Wang said the group was the first friendship group between China and other countries under the CPPCC approved by the CPC Central Committee, and that its establishment was a groundbreaking event in the history of CPPCC’s foreign exchanges.

He urged the friendship group to implement the CPC Central Committee’s policy on China’s relations with Africa and to help deliver the outcomes of the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

He also called on the group to make efforts to promote the CPPCC’s foreign exchanges.

Top political advisor stresses religious work, poverty alleviation in Tibetan-inhabited regions

CHENGDU, May 27 (Xinhua) — Wang Yang, China’s top political advisor, underlined efforts to curb separatists, maintain normal religious practices and alleviate poverty during a visit to the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze in Sichuan Province from Saturday to Monday.

Efforts should be made to guide religious people to willingly uphold the Party’s leadership, promote patriotism and correctly understand the relations between the law and religious doctrines, said Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee.

He instructed local authorities to improve the management of temples and counteract infiltration by hostile foreign forces.

Wang also urged them to improve the quality of poverty relief projects, upgrade local infrastructure and public services and allocate more resources to the areas suffering absolute poverty.

BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) — Top political advisor Wang Yang Friday met with representatives of media outlets from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The trend of the times that the cross-Strait relations move forward in the new era cannot be obstructed by anyone or any forces, said Wang, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, while meeting with the representatives who attended a media summit in Beijing.

Media outlets across the Strait shoulder the social responsibility of maintaining and promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, said Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

He called on the media on both sides to continue giving voice to pushing forward the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advancing the process toward the peaceful reunification of the motherland and to make their contributions to realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Top political advisor wants annual session to reflect public thoughts

BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) — Chinese political advisors have been asked to convey real thoughts and appeals of the public during the upcoming second annual session of the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee.

Wang Yang, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said Friday that the national committee members should align their thoughts and actions with the scientific judgments on major circumstances and decisions on major issues made by the Communist Party of the China Central Committee.

The political advisors should also pool good experiences and practices of the people in order to better serve the work of the Party and the state, Wang said at a two-day meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee that closed Friday.

The meeting approved the agenda and schedule of the annual session, a work report of the CPPCC National Committee’s Standing Committee and a report on how the Standing Committee has handled proposals put forward by political advisors.

Relevant drafts and reports will be submitted to the session for deliberation.
