* BRICS flexing muscle – to set up joint bank, call for dialogue on Iran & Syria

Times of India: “Seeking to reinforce their growing economic heft with diplomatic clout, the BRICS grouping Thursday pitched for a bigger say in global governance institutions, including the UN and the IMF, and told the West that dialogue was the only way to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue and the Syria crisis.

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which comprise nearly half the world’s population and a growing share of global GDP, signed two pacts to spur trade in their local currencies. They also agreed to set up a working group for a joint development bank to promote mutual investment in infrastructure.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India and Presidents Hu Jintao China, Dmitry Medvedev Russia, Dilma Rousseff Brazil and Jacob Zuma South Africa ended the fourth BRICS summit by renewing the pitch for reforming global governance institutions and closer coordination on global issues. The five leaders stressed on the restructuring of the world order to accommodate emerging economies and developing countries and for promoting sustained and balanced global economic growth.”

    Hi, again!

Although BRICS is really a virtual entity in terms of political power, I think current NATO expansionism and disputes over Syria, Iran, Koreas will force some BRICS countries such as Russia, China and to some extent India to reinforce their economic allience and therefore it will force them to consider forming a political allience under this banner.

I have Turkish citizenship by birth but I have a very complicated background 😉

    Thanks for the website.

    Hi, everyone!

Let’s hope that some dark minds do not trigger any provocation or disputes among the BRICS countries because the world needs a “balancing” power against NATO’s “humanitarian” blood-spilling expansionism.

Hi Volkan – As you know, BRICS is really a virtual entity without any recognised standing, except in the world of economics. So, although they have now met formally several times, it is more of a talking and mutual cooperation activity than a political meeting. But I see what you mean.

Am I right in guessing you are from Turkey by any chance?

      Keep visiting and commenting. 😉

    God bless BRICS!

NATO is clearly on the dark side now, with its repeated and cynical ‘humanitarian’ sanctions against honest civilians, its ‘humanitarian’ bombings, its phony insurgencies, oily theocracies, and fake replacement governments.

Oh, sorry – it looks like we don’t see things the same way here.

Hi John – thank you for reading my blog. And thank you for giving your honest-to-goodness comments. Too many of the so-called comments I get are pure and unadulterated ‘spam’.

And I am happy with your alternative view about BRICs ‘versus’ the developed nations. It is what a ‘free and open exchange’ is all about – differing views, sometimes intractable, sometimes influencing others with an opposing view.

Pls keep reading my posts and, if you feel like it, pls spread through your network.

(BTW – I found your Next Theology blog interesting too. But it is not something I will be ‘following’. Sorry.)

      All the best.
