Exhibition opens to mark 70th anniversary of PRC founding

BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — A grand exhibition of achievements in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) opened Monday at the Beijing Exhibition Center.

Premier Li Keqiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

The exhibition comprehensively reflects the practices, achievements and experience of the past 70 years, which witnessed great improvements in the country’s economy and people’s living conditions, said Li.

It also records the continuous rise of China’s international status and influence, as well as China’s contribution to the cause of world peace and development, according to Li.

Noting that China remains the largest developing country in the world, Li called for more efforts to secure even greater victories in the future.

The country should work for high-quality development, comprehensively deepen reform, and build a market-oriented international business environment based on the rule of law, said Li, adding that it will implement a proactive policy of opening up to the outside world and promote economic globalization.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

About 1,000 people attended the opening ceremony.

Chinese, Vietnamese parties hold 15th theory seminar

GUIYANG, July 21 (Xinhua) — The Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) held their fifteenth theory seminar on Sunday in Guiyang, southwest China’s Guizhou Province.

The seminar focused on exploring laws of socialist modernization in China and Vietnam.

The opening ceremony of the seminar was attended by Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and Vo Van Thuong, head of the CPV Central Committee’s Communication and Education Commission.

Huang said in his keynote speech that the CPC has led the Chinese people in successfully creating the road of modernization construction with Chinese characteristics that has promoted the fast development of the country, based on the national conditions and by adhering to putting the people first, taking the economic construction as the central task and adhering to the reform and opening up.

Prior to the seminar, Huang, who is also head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, held talks with Thuong. They exchanged views on deepening relations between the two parties and two countries and on enhancing media exchanges and cooperation.

Chinese president leaves for Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing on Wednesday afternoon for Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

At the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Xi will pay a state visit to Kyrgyzstan and attend the 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan.

At the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Xi will attend the fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, and pay a state visit to the country.

Xi’s entourage includes Ding Xuexiang, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee; State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi; and He Lifeng, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and head of the National Development and Reform Commission.

Xi stresses implementation of rural revitalization strategy

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday called for more efforts to implement the rural revitalization strategy with the chief goal to modernize agriculture and rural areas.

“The top task for implementing the rural revitalization strategy is to ensure supply of important farm produce, grain in particular,” said Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

He made the remarks when joining deliberation with deputies from Henan Province at the second session of the 13th National People’s Congress, China’s national legislature.

Efforts should be made to promote the supply-side structural reform in the agricultural sector to achieve food security while building a modern and efficient agriculture, Xi added.

Xi also called for enhanced protection of agriculture ecological environment and prevention and treatment of pollution in rural areas.

Xi stressed strict penalties on crimes involving food safety so as to ensure safe farm produce for the public.

Efforts should be made to strengthen the leadership of grassroots Party units in the rural areas, Xi said, noting that the practices of rural residents’ self-governance should be further explored.

Xi also called for measures to promote two-way flow and equal exchange of factors, including human resources, lands and capital, between urban and rural areas.

“The task to eradicate extreme poverty must be fulfilled by 2020,” Xi stressed.

Implementation of the rural revitalization strategy and seeking progress in work related with agriculture, rural areas and farmers should be taken into consideration and promoted in the overall economic and social development, Xi said.

Li Keqiang, Wang Huning and Han Zheng — members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee — on Friday also separately joined deliberation with NPC deputies.

Premier Li Keqiang stressed building a business environment that is fair and convenient for enterprises under all forms of ownership, when joining a deliberation with deputies from Hubei Province.

He called for efforts to fully carry out the reforms of tax and fee cuts and further stimulate the market vitality.

Wang Huning, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, asked deputies from central China’s Hunan Province to take bigger steps in pushing forward high-quality development.

He also called for taking a people-centered approach to further live up to people’s new expectations for their cultural lives.

Joining the deliberation of the Beijing delegation, Vice Premier Han Zheng underlined deepening the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to further relieve Beijing of functions nonessential to its role as the capital.

Senior CPC official meets Panchen Lama

BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) — A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official met with the 11th Panchen Lama Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu in Beijing Tuesday.

You Quan, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, congratulated the Panchen Lama for the progress he made last year.

You expressed the hope that the Panchen Lama could make new achievements in maintaining China’s reunification and ethnic unity as well as in promoting Tibetan Buddhism to be more adaptable to the socialist society.

The Panchen Lama said he will closely follow the CPC Central Committee in terms of thinking, political orientation and actions.

He said he will keep his responsibilities in mind, serve the believers and further contribute to national reunification, ethnic unity, religious harmony, and people’s well-being.
