Yang, also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, said the two countries are good friends, good partners and good brothers.

In recent years, the two countries’ heads of state have met many times to steer the development of bilateral ties, he said.

Political mutual trust between the two countries continues to deepen, and their practical cooperation has yielded remarkable results, said the Chinese official, adding that financial and aviation cooperation has become a new growth point, and progress has been made in key projects such as the construction of the Pointe Noire special economic zone.

China has always supported the Republic of the Congo in developing its economy, improving people’s livelihood, and adhering to a development path that suits its national realities, Yang said.

He urged the two sides to keep the momentum of high-level exchanges, and to continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests and concerns.

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Beijing on Friday.

Xi extended his welcome for Georgieva’s first visit to China as IMF chief.

Xi said global economic growth is slowing down with increasing downside risks, protectionism in the world is on the rise, and multilateralism and free trade are facing severe challenges. Therefore, the international community has higher expectations for the role of the IMF.

“I hope that under your administration, the IMF will further improve the international currency and its governance system, and enhance the representation and voice of emerging markets and developing countries,” said Xi.

The Chinese president expressed the hope that the IMF will continue to promote global trade, safeguard a fair and open global financial market, and advance the development of the international order in a more just and rational manner.

Xi said in recent years, China and the IMF have carried out sound cooperation in strengthening the capacity building of countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

“China is willing to continuously deepen cooperation with the IMF,” said Xi.

Stressing that China’s economic development has great resilience, potential and room for maneuvering, Xi said the long-term positive trend of China’s economic growth will not change.

“I am full of confidence in China’s development,” said Xi, noting that China will stick to the new vision for development, forge ahead high-quality economic development, continuously promote a higher level of opening up, and bring more opportunities to the world economic growth.

Georgieva said China aims to eradicate absolute poverty by 2020, and the goal is of landmark significance for China and the world. China has achieved sustained and strong economic growth through reform and opening up. It is believed that China will continue to remain open to the outside world in various fields including finance and capital.

The IMF attaches great importance to its relationship with China and will continue to deepen cooperation with China, she said.

Noting that the world economy is currently in a difficult period, Georgieva said the IMF firmly supports free and open trade and strives to achieve peaceful trade relations.

She said the IMF is ready to carry out reforms in line with the needs of the times and enhance the weight of emerging economies.

Georgieva also expressed the willingness to work with China to advance the building of a community of a shared future for humanity and strengthen Belt and Road cooperation.

During her stay in China, Georgieva, who took office as the managing director of the IMF last month, also attended a roundtable meeting hosted by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang with leaders of six major international economic and financial institutions.

One-China principle meets shared aspiration of people: spokesperson

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — The resumption of diplomatic ties between the governments of China and Kiribati fully demonstrates that the one-China principle meets the shared aspiration of the people and constitutes an irresistible trend of the times, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said Saturday.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kiribati’s President and Foreign Minister Taneti Mamau on Friday signed a communique on resuming diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level between the two countries at the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Geng stressed that there is but one China in the world, that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government that represents the whole of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.

“This is an objective fact, a universally recognized norm of international relations and a general consensus of the international community,” Geng said.

The government of the Republic of Kiribati recognizes and undertakes to stay committed to the one-China principle, sever the so-called “diplomatic relations” with Taiwan authorities and resume diplomatic relations with China. “We support this important decision which Kiribati government has made on its own as an independent sovereign state,” Geng said.

“This again fully demonstrates that the one-China principle meets the shared aspiration of the people and constitutes an irresistible trend of the times,” Geng added.

Relations between China and Pacific island nations are maintaining rapid growth. People of the two countries hold amicable feelings toward each other, he said. “It is the common expectation of all sectors of Kiribati to resume diplomatic relations and strengthen cooperation with China. It is in the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries and peoples.”

China stands ready to strengthen pragmatic cooperation and friendly exchanges with Kiribati in various fields on the basis of the one-china principle and the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to benefit the two countries and peoples, said the spokesperson.
