ULAN BATOR, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — A series of cultural events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Mongolia kicked off at the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery here on Monday.
Hundreds of people from various fields of both countries, including Mongolian Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Yondonperenlei Baatarbileg and Chinese Ambassador to Mongolia Xing Haiming attended the opening ceremony.
“We will relive the China-Mongolia friendship through more than 20 activities including cultural performances, exhibitions, exchanges of books, watching movies and TV series and free medical exams under a broader theme called ‘Feel China’ for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mongolia,” Xing said at the ceremony.
The ambassador noted that China attaches great importance to China-Mongolia relations and is willing to deepen the alignment of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Mongolia’s Development Road Program on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
He expressed hope that the two countries will work together to boost the friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation that brings tangible benefits to the two countries and peoples.
For his part, Baatarbileg said that the culture of any country is a guarantee of independence and the value of its people.
“I have no doubt that the cultural events can give Mongolians a deeper understanding of China’s culture,” he said, noting that the Mongolian government will support any activities aimed at promoting the history and culture of the two countries.
Visitors can partake in martial arts training, craft traditional Chinese embroidery, attend film screenings and taste a variety of Chinese foods.
The events are co-organized by China’s State Council Information Office, China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and governor’s office of the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator.

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan met here Monday with Peruvian Vice President Mercedes Araoz, who is in Beijing to attend relevant activities of the Beijing Horticultural Expo.
Wang spoke highly of the current bilateral relationship, saying that China is willing to further advance mutual understanding and trust and deepen cooperation to push the relationship to a higher level.
Araoz congratulated China on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and said her country is ready to deepen cooperation with China in such areas as trade and economy, investment, agriculture, poverty relief, science, technology and culture.
YINCHUAN, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — China and Arab states are seeking to boost cooperation in tourism along the Belt and Road at an upcoming conference in Yinchuan, capital of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
As part of the fourth China-Arab States Expo, the 2019 China-Arab States Tour Operators Conference will be held on Sept. 4-7.
More than 100 representatives from 13 countries including Egypt, and a dozen Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities are expected to hold discussions on tourism exchanges.
The conference will focus on the future development of tourism along the Belt and Road through promotional events, project signings and tour routes explorations, according to the regional department of culture and tourism.

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — President Xi Jinping on Monday called on the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) to make new and greater contributions to the development of the Red Cross cause.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks when meeting with representatives to the 11th general congress of the RCSC at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Extending sincere greetings and warm congratulations to the representatives, Xi encouraged them to champion the spirit of humanity, compassion and dedication, and pursue reform and innovation with great endeavor.

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Top legislator Li Zhanshu met with a delegation led by U.S. Senator Steve Daines and Senator David Perdue here on Monday.
Commending their long-term efforts to promote the development of bilateral relations and exchanges between the legislative bodies, Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), said this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.
He said history has proven that China and the United States stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation and a healthy China-U.S. relationship meets the common interests of both countries and the world.
China is committed to the road of peaceful development and upholds an opening strategy featuring mutual benefit and win-win results, said Li, adding that the NPC is ready to work with the U.S. Congress to enhance cooperation and to properly handle differences and sensitive issues through dialogue and constructive means.
Daines, also co-chair of the U.S. House of Senate U.S.-China Working Group, and Perdue said U.S.-China relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world and members from the working group are ready to make efforts to promote mutual understanding between the two governments and the two peoples.

BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — As the autumn semester started Sunday, Chinese education departments, schools and military authorities have geared up for military training programs for students.
The Ministry of Education and three departments of the Central Military Commission jointly issued a directive earlier this week underlining adequate preparation of trainers, careful design of training programs and proper security management.
Freshman college students across the country and entrants to middle schools in many places are required to attend a short military training program mostly on campus but sometimes at training camps.
The military should select competent servicemen to be trainers and provide them with adequate training on teaching policies and skills, according to the directive.
Civilian and military authorities were also asked to introduce more interactive and creative training models and design courses that suit students’ physical and psychological conditions.

Germany welcomes first panda cubs born in the country
Zoo reports mother and babies doing well and in good health

Berlin zoo is celebrating the safe arrival of panda twins, in the first time that the rare animals have been born in Germany.
Resident panda Meng Meng delivered her first cub on Saturday evening, with the second baby arriving about an hour later.
The zoo posted a video on Twitter of the new mother guiding one of her pink babies to feed, with the announcement: “Meng Meng became a mom – twice! We are so happy, we are speechless.”
The cubs weighed in at 136 and 186 grams but their genders had not been determined, the zoo said.

“Meng Meng and her two cubs coped well with the birth and are all in good health,” zoo director Andreas Knieriem said.
At birth, the pink cubs, with their fine white down and disproportionately long tails, bear little resemblance to the adult black and white bears.
The births are particularly rare as it is notoriously hard to breed pandas.
Famed for its “panda diplomacy”, China has sent its national treasure to only about a dozen countries as a symbol of close relations.
The zoo pays US$15 million for a 15-year contract to host them, with most of the money going toward a conservation and breeding research programme in China.
While the cubs are born in Berlin, they remain Chinese and must be returned to China within four years after they have been weaned.
China has previously given three pandas to Germany but the last one, 34-year-old Bao Bao, died in Berlin in 2012, having become the oldest male panda in the world.
About 1,864 pandas remain in the wild in China, up from around 1,000 in the late 1970s, according to the environmental group WWF.
Just over 400 pandas live in zoos around the world, in conservation projects set up with Beijing.
The highest number of such cases has been registered in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, which borders Delhi.
“At least 46 cases have been reported until 29 August. In all cases, we found that there was no evidence of child trafficking,” director general of police OP Singh told the BBC.
“We appeal to the people to not believe in such rumours. If you are in doubt, just reach out to the police through phone [dial in number 100] or social media,” he added.

In Ghaziabad district, which is on the outskirts of Delhi, six cases were registered in August.
“In one case, a group of people attacked a grandmother while she was out with her grandchild. People attacked her because her skin colour was different to her grandchild,” senior police officer Neeraj Jadaun said, adding that all suspects in the case had been arrested.
While incidents like this are being reported across India, it is not clear if kidnappings are on the rise.
Rumours of child kidnappings often spread over text messages or WhatsApp, according to reports.
Officials have urged people not to believe messages linked to child abductions and are yet to find any incidents of child abduction related to the spate of messages and videos being shared online.
NEW DELHI (Reuters) – At least 12 people were killed and around 50 injured after a series of explosions at a chemical factory in the western Indian state of Maharashtra on Saturday, hospital officials and police said.
An official at Shirpur’s sub-district hospital in Dhule district said that 12 people had died in the explosion. “There are around 37 injured admitted here, and we have transferred another 12 patients,” D.N. Wagh told Reuters.
The first explosion at the factory took place around 9.30 a.m. (0400 GMT), police officer Sanjay Ahire said. Videos from the incident on local news channels showed thick black smoke billowing out of the factory.
“There was a 200 litre chemical barrel that exploded first, then the fire spread to other parts of the factory and there were more blasts,” Ahire said.
